Lightweight, efficient V8 at the heart of the BMW M3 Convertible
The move to eight cylinders in the fourth generation BMW M3 provides a powerplant offering the seemingly disparate characteristics of more power, increased efficiency and reduced weight when compared with the previous six-cylinder M3 engine. Displacing 3,999 cubic centimeters (4.0 liters), the new light-alloy engine produces 414 hp at 8,300 rpm and 295 pounds-feet of torque at 3,900 rpm with 85 percent of the maximum torque available consistently through 6,500 rpm. This power output represents a 24 percent increase over the six-cylinder from the last generation M3 and it comes with a seven percent weight saving. Compression ratio is dialed in to 12.0:1 and redline is set at 8,400 rpm.
The V8 engine of the new BMW M3 Convertible boasts the company’s variable double-VANOS camshaft management. Offering extremely fast and responsive valve timing, this technology reduces charge cycle losses and improves the output, torque and response of the engine, with a positive influence on fuel economy and emission management.
Innovations
BMW Technology: Advancing your driving pleasure
Innovative engineering and technology are at the core of what makes a BMW a BMW. Every detail of a BMW is designed with a single goal in mind: to enhance the joy of driving. BMW engineers know that anything that doesn't provide more exhilaration, more comfort, or enhance driving safety simply doesn't belong in a BMW. They know because when they're not building BMWs, they're driving them.

Find a new route as quickly as the traffic changes.
Whether you want the short route, the fast route or the scenic route; you never want to get stuck in traffic. Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI), now included in the BMW navigation system on most models, provides up-to-date traffic information on your control display. The service notifies you of traffic incidents on your route so you can change course and possibly avoid delays. Most markets continuously update the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; while smaller markets may update the service only during normal commuting hours.
Traffic incidents are compiled and transmitted in metropolitan areas by the nation's leading FM broadcaster. The data is received through a dedicated tuner, which operates independently of your entertainment source. The reported traffic incidents are displayed as icons on the navigation map and in a list, sorted by distance from your BMW's current position. While you stay focused on enjoying the drive, your navigation system automatically calculates the best route and even provides a detour around traffic if the delay is calculated to be longer than 5 minutes.

Logic7 Audio System
It's a sound experience as remarkable as the BMW driving experience. Unlike traditional stereo systems, Logic7 routes two-channel (stereo) sound through a seven-channel playback matrix to create 360-degree Surround Sound. The anti-theft AM/FM stereo CD/MP3 player audio system includes 13 upgraded speakers (including 2 subwoofers), Digital Sound Processing (DSP), Radio Data System (RDS), Auto-Store and 3-channel FM diversity antenna, and it displays MP3 song title and artist.
THX Certified Premium Audio System
The THX Certified AM/FM stereo/CD audio system generates full-bodied, pure sound and incorporates Carver technology. Sound is generated by a powerful Carver amplifier with 7-band Digital Sound Processing, and delivered through 10 upgraded speakers, including two subwoofers.
iPod/iPhone USB Integrated System
When we wanted to connect an MP3 player directly to our vehicle's sound system, we went straight to the experts at Apple. Together, we created the world's first seamless integrated system of iPod and automobile. Just plug your iPod or iPhone into the adapter accessory. Control the volume and your playlists through the multifunction steering wheel, while your iPod or iPhone stays out of view with a constant flow of power. There's also a convenient, standard auxiliary input jack, which allows you to play any MP3 through the audio system.
