If you’re comparing the 2022 BMW i4 vs. Mercedes-Benz EQS, you might be surprised to discover that a base-level i4 costs roughly half of what you’d spend on the standard EQS! However, despite this massive difference in pricing, the i4 is actually the better performer. Although the i4 has a slightly shorter range, it delivers more power, faster acceleration, a more exciting selection of colors, and a compact Gran Coupe body that’s better suited to city living. Compare the BMW i4 vs. Mercedes-Benz EQS in detail to learn more.

Price & Value: BMW i4 vs. EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS offers plenty of luxury, but is it really worth paying for? As we noted from the outset, you’ll have to spend at least $102,310 MSRP to drive an EQS home to Los Angeles or Westlake Village. The i4 starts at less than half that price, at $55,400 MSRP.

Do you get more luxury for the price of the EQS? Perhaps—but the two models are more comparable than you might expect:

  • Like the EQS, the BMW i4 comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, along with Wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.
  • The EQS comes equipped with a 15-speaker Burmester Stereo system, but you can access an optional 16-speaker Harman/Kardon® audio system in the i4—for far less than the cost of a base-level EQS. (The same is true for other niceties, like leather seats.)
  • In fact, the i4 even comes equipped with a larger standard central touchscreen: 14.8 inches, compared to 12.8 inches in the EQS.

Performance: BMW i4 vs. EQS

Where performance is concerned, the EQS is able to offer a slightly higher maximum range than its rival. However, the difference between the 350-mile range of the EQS and the 301-mile range of the i4 will only really matter in the rarest circumstances; for daily driving in Thousand Oaks and Malibu, the range of the i4 is more than sufficient.

What’s more, the i4 delivers more power and faster acceleration for your driving enjoyment. Here’s how these two model compare:

  • BMW i4 Power: 335 hp (eDrive40) to 536 hp (M50)
  • BMW i4 Acceleration: 5.5 seconds (eDrive40) to 3.7 seconds (M50)
  • Mercedes-Benz EQS Power: 329 hp (EQS 450+) to 516 hp (EQS 580)
  • Mercedes-Benz EQS Acceleration: 5.9 seconds (EQS 450+) to 4.1 seconds (EQS 580)

Most importantly, even the high-performance i4 M50 is available for far less than the cost of a base-level Mercedes-Benz EQS!

Mercedes-Benz EQS vs. BMW i4: Other Considerations

  • Spending more money should net you more opportunities for customization, but the EQS only provides ten exterior colors for you to choose from. The BMW i4 is available in twelve exterior colors.
  • You might not mind that the EQS measures 207.3 inches from end to end, but its sedan styling isn’t quite as sleek as the i4’s Gran Coupe design. Since the i4 is more than a foot and a half shorter than its rival, it’s easier to maneuver on busy city streets.
