2023 BMW 5 Series Performance
The 2023 BMW 5 Series is available with a wide range of engines—and whether you opt for a model with rear-wheel drive or xDrive AWD, you’ll enjoy a smooth, controlled ride on the highways of Los Angeles and Westlake Village. The 530i and the 530i xDrive both offer turbocharged four-cylinder engines with up to 248 hp, and the plug-in hybrid 530e models offer 288 hp with an engine and an electric motor. Move up to the 540i, and you’ll receive a 335-hp turbocharged i6. At the top of the lineup, you’ll encounter the M550i and the M5, which offer 523 hp and up to 617 hp, respectively.
2023 BMW 5 Series Interior
The BMW 5 Series is a classic, well-composed sedan with all of the practical amenities you’ll need for daily drives through Malibu and Thousand Oaks. Every model includes a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and even a 12-speaker audio system. In contrast to the 2022 model, the 2023 BMW 5 Series interior does not offer gesture controls for the infotainment system. However, drivers who choose the 2023 model can now add the Executive Package to the 530i, 530e, and 540i configurations. In other words, a head-up display and a Harman/Kardon® audio system are more accessible than ever in the new year.

The BMW 5 Series interior isn’t just luxurious—it’s also spacious. With 18.7 cubic feet of trunk space, this sedan is ready for road trips, errands, sporting events with the kids, or just about anything else you can imagine. 2023 BMW 5 Series Safety Ratings
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2023 BMW 5 Series is one of this year’s Top Safety Picks. Just like last year’s model, the 2023 5 Series comes standard with Active Blind Spot Detection, Frontal Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and front/rear Park Distance Control. Adaptive cruise control is optional, while the Parking Assistance Package is restricted to the M550i and M5 configurations.
Even though the 2023 5 Series has not been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it’s not at all difficult to see why it’s popular with safety-conscious drivers.

The 2022 BMW 5 Series interior offers gesture control with the optional Premium Package. However, compared to drivers who choose the 2023 version, 2022 buyers will have to spend more to access the Executive Package; here, this package is restricted to the upper-level trims. With that said, the two models offer identical suites of standard features.

With 18.7 cubic feet of trunk space and 36.5 inches of rear legroom, the 2022 BMW 5 Series dimensions are identical to those of the 2023 model. You can choose either option without worrying that you’re giving up on space.

The 2022 BMW 5 Series has received the best rating of “Good” in nearly all of the areas that were evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The only exception concerns the ease-of-use of its LATCH child-seat anchors, which was rated as Acceptable. With standard features including blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive headlights, and front/rear parking sensors, the 5 Series is ready for anything. The 2022 model even offers the Parking Assistance Package in lower-end trims—and that makes it an excellent choice for drivers who prioritize convenience.
