If you’re on the hunt for an EV that will never leave you wanting more, you can’t afford to overlook the all-new 2022 BMW i4. But how well does the new i4 compare to a segment-defining vehicle like the Tesla Model 3? Although BMW is only just beginning to make its impact in the all-electric marketplace, any driver who compares the 2022 BMW i4 vs. Tesla Model 3 will notice that the i4 is both better-performing and more luxurious as standard.

BMW i4 vs. Tesla Model 3: Performance

Tesla offers long-range and high-performance upgrades to the Model 3, but at the base level, the Model 3’s performance specs are a little underwhelming:

  • The base-level Tesla Model 3 only offers 272 miles of range on a full charge. The entry-level i4 Gran Coupe offers a range of 301 miles, which translates to roughly one more average daily commute between charges.
  • The base-level i4 can go from 0 to 60 mph more quickly than the base-level Tesla Model 3. The former makes the trip in 5.5 seconds, while the latter needs 5.8 seconds.
  • The BMW i4 offers standard Air Suspension—a feature that the Tesla Model 3 doesn’t even offer! If you’re looking for a smooth, controlled ride, the Model 3 can’t compare to its BMW rival.

BMW i4 vs. Tesla Model 3: Standard Features

The Model 3 has an excellent starting price, but since it offers less range and less power than the standard BMW i4, many drivers who compare the BMW i4 vs. Tesla Model 3 will end up paying for expensive upgrades if they decide to drive home in the Tesla.

Naturally, and by contrast, the 2022 BMW i4 interior gives you everything you’re looking for as standard. In addition to the advantages we’ve already mentioned, the base-level Tesla Model 3 lacks all of the following BMW i4 standard features:

  • Apple CarPlay™
  • Android Auto™
  • Sirius XM™ Satellite Radio
  • HD Radio™
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Power-activated trunk
  • Voice control
